Best of 2016

What makes a “best of” shot?
Something that is creativly different? A unique and fresh approach to a particular subject? The perfect composition?
I guess all of that helps and I’m sure there are already thousands of best of the year posts out there that have all of the things above and more.
For me though the shots that always make it into my best fo the year posts are shots that mean something to me or the person in the photograph.

Some of them will make me laugh as I can perfectly remember the moment they were taken. Some will provide me with huge satisfaction as it has turned out eactly as I had hoped when I pressed the shutter. Others though will tell a story that only I or the people in the photograph will know anything about.
Most imprtantly of all however is that when selecting these images I wanted to make you feel something.

I have the belief that it’s better to feel something than nothing at all. I know that when I took these shots I felt the need to do so. When I saw a mother reach out and hold the hand of her daughter in the car on the way to the church to calm her own nerves as much as her daughters. When I took the shot of a groom so overcome with emotion that tears rolled down his face when he was allowed just a few minutes to hold onto his wife without a single distraction. When during a speech the whole room rose to their feet and appluaded the grooms mother to show her just how important her strength and courage was during a time of loss for her family. And that’s just three moments from literally thousands that I witnessed during 2016.

I know what you’re thinking? Is it only emmotional moments that matter? Not at all because sadness must make way for happiness and sheer joy and if there is one thing that weddings are amazing for it’s that they provide endless oppourtunites to capture huge laughs and ridiculously funny moments that have had me crying with laughter.
I’m so incredibly lucky to be able to have what is essentially vip access to these brilliant moments record them for future enjoyment. So with that, I hope you all enjoy this little trip down my memory lane of 2016 and if it makes you feel even a fraction of what I do when I look through these, I’ll be thrilled.

Happy New Year everyone and I hope that 2016 brings you all much happiness and great success.
