Katie and Darren at Horetown House

This one’s a bit of a revisit. I actually photographed Katie and Darren’s wedding back in 2019, but when I rebuilt my website not long ago, a lot of the older blog posts didn’t make it across. It’s only recently I realised I’d never gotten around to reblogging this one, and it’s been on my mind ever since. One of those days you don’t forget.

Shooting Katie’s wedding was something I’ll never take for granted. Katie herself is a wedding photographer – a brilliant one at that – and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a bit of pressure heading into it. Not in a bad way, just that natural sense of wanting to do your absolute best, knowing the person on the other side of the lens really gets it.

I hadn’t met Katie or Darren before the big day, but any nerves I had melted away the minute I stepped into the bridal suite that morning. Katie greeted me with the warmest smile and even handed me a goody bag. That kind of welcome sets the tone for everything that follows.

And what followed was a day full of big laughs, bold colours and absolute chaos in the best possible way. If you know Katie’s work (you should – it’s full of joy and character: https://katiekav.com), you won’t be surprised that their wedding was anything but quiet or conventional. It was bright, full of energy, and packed with personality.

Horetown House, as always, was the perfect backdrop. It’s one of those places that feels relaxed and homely, but still special – and it suited Katie and Darren down to the ground.

Even though it’s been nearly six years now, I remember the whole day so clearly. That says a lot. It’s one of those weddings I’d shoot again in a heartbeat if I could.

Take a look through some of the photos below. You’ll see the colour, the laughter, and maybe even feel a bit of what it was like to be there.
