I’ve said it so many times, but I’ll say it again. I am one lucky guy. I get invited into peoples lives for a day and not just as a casual observer lurking from a distance – instead, I’m right up front and centre and I get to be as close as anyone will ever be to the bride and groom for the whole day. It’s a very privileged position and one I ever even need to remind myself of now and again.
It’s always during intimate weddings when I feel this most though. That’s natural – when there is 10 or 15 people in the house on the morning of a wedding, one extra body with a camera isn’t going to make much of a difference. You’re almost invisible. However, when the only people in the house are the bride and groom; you and the videographer (the best out there – Best Day Productions) literally double the numbers. And that is exactly what happened when I shot the wedding of Dima and Akeem.
Dima and Akeem are two of the finest folk I could ever wish to photograph. In fact, scratch that – they are two of the finest folk you could wish to meet. They make you feel so welcome and talk to you like you’re an old friend. So being a quarter of the people in the house that morning and getting to document two people who are not yet husband and wife, preparing each other for their own big day was such a lovely thing to be part of. It’s times like that when you pinch yourself and realise – this is mad. I am in such an amazing position.
Dima and Akeem thank you so much for inviting me in and trusting me with such a job. Being part of this day was incredible and you guys were amazing to be around. Don’t be strangers.
