My new favourite thing to photograph
Welcome to my new favourite thing to photograph. Families. More importantly – families being families. Families doing what they do best – getting together and having fun. I’ve been photographing families quietly for a while now but not really mentioned on here until recently but I think it’s time to really put it out there because I love it and I want to do this a lot more.
I was so excited to get an email a few months back from Sarah asking if I’d like to hang out one day with her and her family. What made the email even better was that I found out she was the sister of the super fun and crazy talented Kate-Rose Crean, makeup artist and also the stationary queen that is Dusty Boy Designs. I know Kate-Rose well and I thought well if Sarah is anything like her sis we’re gonna get on just great! I was right!
We picked a Sunday afternoon in October and the plan was that’d we’d all go for a walk in the woods nearby their home. It was a perfect choice and Sarah, her husband Ryan and their four kids were in their element. The childlike joy of pulling a branch out of the ground, dangling from trees, jumping of mountain bike ramps and really letting your imagination run wild is so incredibly easy to photograph.
When we got back to Sarah and Ryan’s home I asked them if they wanted to have a little couple shoot – done in the same way that I work on wedding days and they were up for it. It was a perfect way to end the afternoon – well that and the delicious lunch that Kate-Rose had waiting for us. We’re making this one a tradition.
