While you’re reading this, millions of pixels are trying their best to squeeze down your internet pipes and gathering themselves together in time for what is going to be one serious amount of scrolling. This post is big. So, best read this first..
Do you ever pinch yourself just to check you’re awake. That what you’re doing is real? That what you see in front of you and where you’re standing is not some weird fantasy or dream. Well, back in August I had this very experience. I was standing in the beautiful soft evening light. In front of me were rolling fields or gorgeous English countryside and behind me was this stunning old barn that had been renovated to be used as the most amazing wedding venue. The couple I had been spending the day with were gorgeous both inside and out. The bride had designed her own wedding dress that was out of this world. Their family and friends were the kind of people you wish you could spend more time with. The staff who ran the venue were so warm and welcoming. The food I had just been served was out of this world. The band that was warming up and about to take to the stage were non other than Amy Winehouse’s old band. Everything was perfect. Nothing I could have imagined or hoped for could make this day better. I needed to pinch myself. Was this real. Yes. Every bit of it was real and I cannot wait to show you it.
When Holly and Christian first asked me to come and shoot their day in the Cotswold’s I jumped at it but in he back of my mind I always thought it was too good to be true. Like it would never happen. Holly and Christian are a laid back type and I definitely took that laid back attitude as a sign that maybe this wouldn’t happen. I was wrong, because just a few weeks before the big day I received a lovely email asking me if I was all set J I was so happy! This was happening!
Aside from their relaxed ways, Holly and Christian are one super cool couple. Actually make that super hot. I can’t decide. Okay they’re both. Seriously though, my camera was literally shooting love hearts right into their gorgeous faces. This was going to be very easy.
I arrived into Bibury the night before under pure darkness. It was late and very quiet. With hardly a street light in the whole village I eventually found my way to the B&B and settled down for the night. The next morning I stepped outside the front door and the view literally took my breath away. Bibury is beautiful! So beautiful in fact the artist and craftsman William Morris called Bibury “The most beautiful village in England” when he visited it. It’ll get a blog all of it’s own one of these days.
Holly was getting ready just outside the village in a gorgeous old sandstone cottage and Christian was getting ready close by in The Swan Hotel in Bibury. The morning flew by as spent some time with both of them and there was just so much to photograph. The ceremony would take place outdoors at Cripps Barn where we’d be for the remainder of the day. The setting was truly sensational. A little clearing in amongst the bunting lined trees where everyone sat on their little wooden benches. A gentle cool breeze kept everyone cool from the hot sun. Glorious.
The ceremony was just lovely. Very short but very sweet and finished the most violent confetti throwing I have ever witnessed!
As we walked through the trees and back towards the barn smoke from the bbq was filling the air and the meat was being cooked up for the meals later. I’d have bottled that smell if I could. The guests had an hour or so to mingle for what was a very early dinner but this meant that they had much more time to mingle and enjoy the evening sun after dinner before the band – a little different to how things work here in Ireland. As the evening approached oil lanterns were lit along with a lovely big old bonfire that would keep anything in the a 10 metre radius toasty warm. This was how things should be done. I loved everything about it.
Then the band started. Not just any band. This was the band that Amy Winehouse used to tour with. Where they good? I got goose bumps listening and watching them do their thing. They were incredible.
Along with the pictures I recorded some little snippets of video through out the day. I’m no wedding videographer or cinematographer but hopefully along with the pictures with will give you plenty of insight into what a day this was.
I have included the supplier list at the bottom but I have to just mention the dress one more time… Some of you girls out there could well be wearing an outfit designed by Holly because she is a clothes designer for Top Shop. So with all that skill and knowhow she designed this dress you’ll see before you. It was something else. Look at the detail on the sleeves. From what I remember that day it’s the same material that was used for Kate Middleton’s dress. Just wait til you see it in full flow.
I think I’ve said enough. Massive thank you to Holly and Christian for having me over to shoot their day. I am still pinching myself.
So then, first things first, watch the video and then look at the images.
