Erin and Aaron at Kippure Estate
It’s not very often that I find myself at the end of a 12-14 hour day crying with ightaughter at just how bizarre and hilarious the scene is in front of me. This wedding was one such instance.
I remember sitting with Erin and Aaron – pronounced Erin and Erin by the way just to confuse you (and me) (and apparently most of their friends over the years) in a hotel in Kilkenny. They told me about this idea they had to have Darth Vadar and the Storm Troopers appear at their wedding as they are both big Star Wars fans. It made me chuckle at the time as I thought “oh that’ll be kinda odd and funny and probably make people laugh for a minute or two”. Well, little did I realise at just how incredibly hilarious it is to see two Storm Troopers and Darth Vadar complete with lightsabers and blaster guns (I had to google that I’m afraid) lead a conga line through a marquee. I’m actually surprised that most of the photos turned out sharp based on how much I was shaking with laugher. Good job I’m not on video. What a blast. Seriously.
Well that was the end to the most perfect day. People say, “You know, when you get married just make it your own – do it your way.” Yet so few actually do. People worry about details, timings, will this go with that, is this flower wilting? Is my hair okay?. Let me tell you, none of that matters. Are you having the best day of your life so far? Yes. Excellent. Keep doing that. This is exactly what Erin and Aaron did. Erin laughed, made jokes, was super silly, cried with laughter, cried with pure raw emotion that makes you feel alive, stood in a cold empty shed with a guy dressed up as Darth Vadar (Sorry Aaron… the REAL Darth Vader) and had a conversation about “which is the best lightsaber?”, danced like a lunatic and walked through a field in flip flops with a lightsaber at midnight. Does that sound like a amazing day or what? Aaron did all of the above but he didn’t wear flip flops.
Oh. And one more thing. Their venue burnt down a week before their wedding. That right. Their venue went up in flames and the folks at Kippure Estate pulled off the most amazing turn around to give these guys the best wedding you could ask for.
I loved this day. They loved this day. Everyone loved this day. Darth flippin Vader loved this day. Go see.
