This is a big one. Seriously. Make sure you have a drink handy, even some snacks if you’re that way inclined. This is one of these blogs where I just couldn’t help myself and where I think being a documentary wedding photographer comes to the fore.
When Catherine first got in touch and told me about her day, there wasn’t going to be a whole lot that was going to get in my way from being there. She told me that the wedding would take place at Tom’s parent’s house, near Lyme Regis, a lovely seaside town on the Jurassic Coast in Devon. Sounds amazing I thought. And then she threw in the fact that they had a little miniature Schnauzer called Bowie. That was it. That was all I needed. So we traded dog pics and added the date to my calendar. I could not wait for this.
I remember driving up to the house in the morning and as I made my way down their driveway, which resembled more of a country lane that twisted and turned and made its way over rolling hills, I thought to myself. Aren’t I lucky? This is ridiculous. As I parked up, Tom approached my car with a huge beaming smile that I’d soon become very accustomed to, reached into the car to shake my hand and thanked me for being there. How could I miss this was my reply and how right I was. This day was unreal.
I’ll honestly let the pictures do the talking on this one because this is a serious scroller but I need to just cover a few things. I was given one of the most lovely welcomes by both Catherine and Tom, their lovely parents, their extended families and way-too-cool-for-me friends. I was given the instruction early in the day to help myself to the kitchen, treat the house like it’s my own and to go wherever I want. Shooting a wedding with complete freedom is a wonderful thing and as I photographed this day I remember just feeling so grateful. Weddings like this don’t come around very often so I was going to savour every single moment of it.
Needless to say, as you’ll see from the photographs, this was a beautiful day. Catherine and Tom make one incredible couple. Beautiful people on the outside but I got a glimpse as to who they are on the inside and what they are like as a couple and I can say that they are the kind of people who I could easily be friends with. Big laughs, big smiles, fun loving, dog lovers, family people and hug you like they want to cut your blood supply. My kind of people.
