I first met Sarah and Aidan a few months before their wedding in a roadside hotel in Roscrea one lovely Sunday afternoon. During that afternoon the two of them couldn’t stop smiling as they told me about their big day. Fast forward three months and those smiles were bigger than ever.
Pretty much everything was taking place at the stunning Kinnitty Castle – a venue that I hadn’t been to in a while so it was lovely to be back. Everyone was in top form when I arrived with plenty of chat and laughs amongst the girls who were up in what was like an attic room at the top of the castle. The kind of place a you could imagine Rapunzel being locked away in. With it’s big four poster bed and stone walls it was all very romantic and just the kind of thing an American girl like Sarah getting married in a castle in Ireland would have dreamt of. Perfect.
The ceremony was held in the large dining room and was a really lovely and personal affair. Their pastor Tom made the trip to Kinnitty to carry out the ceremony and their music was played and sung by Sarah and Aidan’s close friends, Matt and Lucia (who I’ll tell you more about in a moment!) who were amazing!
Shortly after the ceremony the bridal party braved the elements, (the girls had the help of cute little cardigans) to go outside into what felt like close to freezing temperatures for a short photoshoot. When I saw Aidan’s hands getting blue I knew it as time to speed things up – and put on my gloves. Ahh that’s better. Seriously though – these guys are troopers. Not an ounce of complaining about the cold and instead just smiled through the whole thing, as always.
I was delighted to be staying for the full day as capturing the dances is something I love to do, but man – am I so, so glad I was there to capture something that was pretty special! Sarah’s friend Lucia (who I mentioned earlier) joined the band to do a cover of Tina Turner’s “Simply The Best”. OH.MY.GOODNESS! Unreal! As I saw her getting ready to sing I’m so glad that I switched my camera to video and captured the whole thing because quite honestly she was amazing. As I left that night I was practically yelling into Sarah’s poor eardrums – “Who is that girl?!”. Turns out she was on You’re a Star back in 2006 and only went and won the flippin thing! As Sarah said to me “She’s Stinkin’ Awesome right?!?!” Haha couldn’t put it better myself. I’ve put the video at the bottom of the post. The audio quality isn’t the best so turn it up to enjoy it fully! Lucia – I doff my cap.
Sarah and Aidan thank you so, so much for having me there with you for your big day. Everything was a pleasure. Your families are awesome and your friends rock – literally!
