If there is one thing I love more than good weather at a wedding, it’s good weather at a wedding for two of the nicest people you could ever wish to spend a day with.
Susan and Leon, like most, if not all, 2020 couples had to make some big sacrifices to ensure that their wedding went ahead on the date they had planned but boy did they make the most of it.
The day started at the Guillamene in Tramore where Leon and his mates all decided that the best way to start the day was to jump into the sea. I guess, if you’re going to take the biggest leap of your life later in the day you might as well work up to it. In saying that, Leon did more than leap, it was a pure 10 10 10 10 10 across the board for his olympian level dive. It was so good in fact that I missed the splash – luckily I had given Susan’s brother a go-pro to record video and after just jumping in himself he spun around to capture Leon’s dive. He too get’s 10 out of 10 for his skillz behind the camera!
After it was back to Leon’s aunt and uncle’s for a monstrous fry up complete with a big plate of blas. No Waterford breakfast is complete without them.
Susan’s morning was spent overlooking Belle Lake at her parent’s house. What. A. View. As the wedding was having a very limited guest list, the house was a hive activity with and those who wouldn’t be there later to wish Susan their best. It made for such a great and busy morning with so many faces and great moments to photograph.
Dunbrody House in Arthurstown, Co Wexford was the chosen venue – a place I have’t had a chance to visit in years but it was just an amazing as I remember with that beautiful garden at the back and gorgeous rustic grounds. I love it there. The outdoor ceremony area was just perfect for the 20 or so people in attendance and made it all feel so intimate.
I have to say, that this years weddings have been incredibly special to photograph. There is something brilliant about small weddings. There is definitely a different at vibe the larger weddings of the past but seeing a bride and groom, deep in conversation and able to spend quality time with the guests that they really wouldn’t have had miss their day for anything is pretty awesome. I count myself incredibly lucky and privileged to be even in attendance an event that is now such an intimate family affair.
Susan and Leon, thanks for making my 2020 so much better than it would have been had I not been there.
