Yasuko and Gary. Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin
Yasuko and Gary were kind enough to ask me to photograph their beautiful wedding at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin during the summer. It was such a privilege to be a part of and Yasuko and Gary made me feel so incredibly welcome.
I think it’s fair to say that Yasuko and Gary are fairly quiet unassuming people, not shy so to speak but extremely polite and reserved. They aren’t showy folk and neither are their friends or family and to be honest, this is perfect for a documentary photographer because it really allows me to quietly blend in. I love this approach.
The ceremony itself would take place in the pretty spectacular and spectacularly old (1662!) Smock Alley. What an impressive building with his massively high ceilings and sense of grandeur. It’s a wonderful place to hold a ceremony and it was funny to watch as people entered the main hall as their eyes immediately looked skyward to take in the impressive ceiling and sheer size of the place.
There were plans to walk back from Smock Alley to The Shelbourne, however, the weather soon put paid to that as the amazing Irish summer we’d endured had now come to a sudden stop. Luckily though, the sun eventually shone and we were able to nip across to Stephens Green in the late afternoon for some quick portraits before the evening festivities got underway.
I hope you enjoy this little gateway into their wedding day have as much fun viewing it as I did capturing it. Yasuko and Gary – thank you so much for having me there. It was a joy.
