FIGHT club

And now for something completely different.

I received a message from my milkman (yes, we’re old school in this house) earlier in the week to say there’d be no delivery on Friday—he was resting up for a charity boxing match that night, raising money for the Kells Community Centre. Totally intrigued, a few text messages later, and with ticket in hand, I found myself at the Castleinch Venue outside Kilkenny with camera in hand, eyes on stalks, and totally engrossed in what I was seeing before me.

I asked if I could get access to a spot where I could see the fighters getting prepared and warmed up. After getting the nod of approval, I was like a man on a mission. Obviously, I treaded carefully - well aware that these fighters were trying to get into the zone and didn’t need someone like me getting in the way. Some fighters stayed in groups, chatting and laughing, perhaps blocking out what was about to take place. Others stayed in a corner on their own, stretching, shadowboxing—getting mentally ready.

I have to say, the fighters I spoke to were all super friendly, and you could feel their nervous energy. I would LOVE to do this again. What an absolute treat.

Side note - our milkman won!
